Paddy Forker

At the age of 15 I left my home in Co Donegal to work on a dairy farm in Scotland and when I was 18, I moved to Wales to work in the coal mines in the Rhondda Valley.

Birmingham became my home in 1962 when I moved there to work on various tunnelling projects, initially setting myself up as a tunnelling subcontractor before taking the leap of faith to form my own company, P Forker Contractors Ltd, in 1972. That was the start of this incredible journey.

My focus was always ensuring that work was done properly and safely, but back then I never envisaged that the company would grow to the size it is today.

I was very fortunate to employ some key individuals during the early years and knew others who became integral to the future success and longevity of the company.

We thrived on hard work and being challenged to solve problems that others could not fix. Our ‘can do approach’ is still woven into our fabric to this very day.

I have taken great pride watching the company grow over the years.  I’ve seen people join the company at an early age and I’ve watched them develop into senior roles within the business giving me great satisfaction.

I am extremely grateful for our dedicated team, people who share my values, who aren’t afraid to get up early no matter what the weather, and who always give 100% for this company.

I know that it is the people we employ who have made Forkers what it is today and for that I am extremely grateful.
