March 2009

We have recently been awarded the £750k contract to complete the temporary stabilisation and infilling of Step Shaft Mine Gallery in Dudley. Step Shaft Mine is one of the many limestone mines that were mined in the area during the industrial revolution and which have remained open ever since. The 100m long by 15m high gallery has recently deteriorated to such an extent that it is being temporarily filled with sand to prevent further collapse. Dudley hope that funding will be secured to complete full stabilisation of the gallery and allow it to be reopened to the public as part of a larger canal based tourist attraction.
