July 2011

July 2011 - Treatment of Chalk Mine Workings at Field Road/Coley District in Reading passes halfway stage.

The £3m project to investigate and treat old chalk mine workings in the Field Road and Coley District of Reading has now passed the halfway stage. Targeted investigation drilling is being carried out to determine the presence and extent of mine workings under at-risk properties, the results of which are analysed by Geotechnical Engineer Peter Brett Associates to determine the extent and type of stabilisation treatment work to be carried out, which is then completed as a second phase. The work has a very high public interface with drilling and grouting work being carried out in and around several properties simultaneously and also requiring a number of rolling road closures. As part of our site team we have a dedicated site liaison officer who provides continuous update and communication with residents which has been of enormous benefit in ensuring cooperation of the whole community during the contract.
