Health & Safety Manager

Location: UK Wide

Salary: £50K - £55K

Reporting to (supervision) : SHEQ Manager

Main Responsibilities:


Health, Safety & Environmental Compliance:

o Ensure and maintain high levels of health, safety, and environmental compliance across the company.

Safety Culture Development:

o Engage with teams to influence and promote a positive safety culture.

Training & Competence Management:

o Lead the review, planning, and delivery of training, ensuring a committed and competent workforce.

o Monitor and review company-wide training databases.

Safety Inductions & Briefings:

o Lead the preparation and delivery of inductions, safety stand-downs, alerts, lessons learned, and toolbox talks.

Safety Audits:

o Develop and deliver a programme of planned safety, health, and environmental audits.

o Undertake site inspections and safety audits, compiling reports with recommendations for improvement.

o Ensure the timely close-out of audit findings and actions.

Engagement & Near Miss Reporting:

o Engage with directors, managers, supervisors, advisors, site teams, and suppliers to promote proactive near-miss awareness and reporting.

Safety Inspections & Monitoring:

o Promote a consistent approach to undertaking and recording safety inspections.

Accident & Incident Investigation:

o Investigate accidents, incidents, and near misses, providing feedback and sharing lessons learned.

Regulatory Liaison:

o Liaise with representatives of the Health and Safety Executive, Environment Agency, and other regulatory authorities.

Reporting & Statistics:

o Compile statistics for reports and presentations, supporting performance monitoring.

Subcontractor Management:

o Support the review of subcontractors and suppliers before appointment and monitor their ongoing performance.

Health & Safety Assurance:

o Undertake health and safety assurance activities during the pre-construction and construction phases of projects.

Policy Development & Improvement:

o Develop and review health and safety policies and suggest process improvements.

Risk Assessments & COSHH:

o Complete and review risk assessments and COSHH Assessments.

Audit Assistance:

o Assist the SHEQ Manager with external audits (ISO9001, 14001, 45001, 44001, etc.).

Line Management & Mentoring:

o Provide guidance and mentoring to SHE Advisors, supporting their career development.

Qualifications & Memberships:


IOSH Membership: Graduate minimum, Chartered desirable.

NEBOSH Construction Certificate or higher.

IEMA Foundation Certificate (Desirable).

PTS (Desirable).

CSCS Card (relevant to position).

5-Day SMSTS (Desirable).

NEBOSH Fire Certification (Desirable).

Auditing Qualifications (Desirable).

RPE Face Fit Training (Desirable).

Valid Driving Licence required.

Experience & Behavioural Competencies:


Experience:

o 2-3 years in a health and safety management role in a construction environment.

o Knowledge of Health & Safety at Work Act, CDM Regulations, HSG65, and risk assessment principles.

o Experience auditing management systems and workplaces (ISO 9001, BS EN 14001, OHSAS 18001).

o Demonstrated leadership in managing small teams.

Problem-Solving & Analysis:

o Strong analytical skills, with the ability to investigate and report on safety issues.

Working Hours:


Core Hours: 45 hours per week, Monday to Friday.

Flexibility: Occasional night work and weekends as required.

Travel: Travel to various sites as needed.

Salary: £50-55k, dependant on experience.
