ASSISTANT QUANTITY SURVEYOR
Key responsibilities:
The main responsibilities of the Assistant Quantity Surveyor are as follows:-
- Contract administration and client liaison
- Contract measurement and valuation
- Preparation and submission of claims/variations
- Procurement and financial management of subcontractors
- Procurement and scheduling of materials for purchasing
- Contract budget preparation and costing
- Comply with Quality Assurance procedures
The main duties under these headings are as follows:-
Contract Administration
- A comprehensive understanding of the Conditions of Contract and management of the Contract.
- Preparation and submission of formal correspondence and notifications to the client in accordance with the particular requirements of the Conditions of Contract.
- Cashflow forecasts and monitoring for clients to highlight under and over expenditures.
- Consider proposals for value engineering alternatives at pre-contract and post contract stages to benefit both the contract and client...
- Programme review and monitoring to assess contract performance and determine the extension of time entitlement.
- Retention of appropriate contract records for transfer to archives.
Measurement
- Site measurement, records and evaluation of works completed.
- Preparation and submission of interim valuations and final accounts at times/dates stipulated in the Contract and issue invoices for payment on acceptance.
- Submit requests for substantial completion or final completion and release of retentions.
- Monitor defects correction period, final completion dates and resolution of defects or snagging work.
- A comprehensive understanding of the various types of standard methods of measurement available in the construction industry for measurement and evaluation purposes.
Claims and Variations
- Preparation, costing and detailed submission of all supportive documentation to substantiate claims and variations to the contract.
- Negotiation and financial settlement of all claims and variations with the client.
Sub-Contractors
- Preparation of enquiry documentation and invitations to tender for all subcontract work packages.
- Analysis of subcontract quotations for compliance with Forkers and principal contractor requirements including programme, resources, technical submission, capability, Health & Safety and Environmental, insurance, payment terms and best value assessment.
- Award and place formal sub-contract order incorporating payment terms, conditions of contract, specification, construction drawings and programme requirements, also detailing information required by Forkers Ltd.
- Monitor, measure and evaluate sub-contractors performance against programme and actual cost.
- Negotiate and settlement of final accounts with sub-contractors.
Materials for Purchasing
- Take off quantities and provide material schedule for Buyer / Purchasing Manager to obtain contract buying prices prior to ordering.
- Consider alternative material types, sources and uses to demonstrate potential costs savings against contract specification.
Budget Costing
- Prepare and produce a contract budget to establish a statement of anticipated performance.
- Monthly / weekly budget monitoring of resources with the site management team to measure contract performance to date and forecast final outturn cost.
Health and Safety, Quality Assurance and Environmental Policies
- Comply with company policies regarding Health and Safety, Quality Assurance and Environmental issues as reviewed and updated to meet current legislation.
The successful candidate for this role will have:
• Completed or be completing a Degree in Quantity Suveying
• Must be an effective communicator who has good organisational skills, with the ability to work well under pressure and is proactive and able to work on own initiative with ability to take ownership of a broad range of responsibilities to drive projects forward.
Package
• Salary: £25k based on a 40 hour week
• Pension – 4% Employer + 4% Employee contribution
• Discretionary Annual Bonus
• Full-time office-based role at our Head Office in West Bromwich Monday-Friday 8am-5pm (40 hours) with regular site visits. Day release option to complete studies.
