The mineshaft which unexpectedly collapsed during drilling and grouting stabilisation work in Egremont, Cumbria, and which was reported in local and national media, is now being treated with the help of specialist drilling equipment and methods. A series of angled holes have been drilled from outside the collapse zone using Casagrande drilling rigs with dual head simultaneous casing drilling methods allowing accurate steel cased boreholes to be drilled into the shaft at a number of positions over its depth to facilitate grout injection and stabilisation of the loose fill in the shaft.
