Land Remediation
We offer a full range or remediation services to the public and private sector and our aim is to work closely with clients utilising our knowledge and experience to assess risks & opportunities and develop best value remediation strategies.
The fundamental principle behind our approach to the remediation solution is to minimise the quantity of material for treatment or disposal by carrying out staged and targeted site investigation and chemical testing with an overall strategy of selecting and testing to minimise waste (hazardous or non-hazardous) for disposal or treatment. This starts at the site clearance and demolition stage to ensure there is no cross contamination during demolition and that investigations can fully target previous uses and layouts. This development of this information allows the CLEA risk assessment process to be fully utilised. Consideration must also given in the development of remediation strategies to final development
levels, foundation solutions and the applicability and cost of
a range of remediation techniques.
The cost of the additional testing this regime requires may be significant but will be small compared with disposal or treatment costs. Time must also be allowed in overall development programmes for the staged testing regime.

|
- Interrogation of all historical and Site Investigation date to identify whether further SI and testing would be recommended on the basis of better delineation of areas of contamination for minimisation of excavated waste for disposal or treatment.
- Reclamation earthworks up to 800,000m3, re-grading, excavate & re-compact, surcharging, lagoon filling, sorting & screening, de-compaction, soil modification by lime or cement addition, application of lime & sewage sludge for ph control and nutrient provision, dust control by bowsering.
- Red site working and decontamination facilities.
- Excavate and dispose of contaminated soils includes discrete excavation of hot spots, separating/sorting identifiable strata or contamination types and stockpile for chemical testing, waste characterisation & WAC testing. Includes disposal of non-hazardous and hazardous wastes such as gas works waste, asbestos contaminated materials, slurries, sludges and radioactive slags.
- Demolition of redundant and derelict industrial & commercial buildings including asbestos surveys and asbestos removal, break out slabs, basements, foundations, interceptors & drains, crush all concrete for re-use. Specialist sub-contractors used for asbestos surveys and removal

- Soil mixing and physical stabilisation for immobilisation of contaminants, ex-situ pug-mill mixing plant, stabilisation-solidification using cement/lime/pfa.
- Mobile Plant License for screening, crushing, soil mixing & ex-situ stabilisation.
- Import and place clean replacement materials, clean cover systems, capillary break & geo-textile separators
- Install gas & groundwater barriers using clay, bentonite, HDPE membranes or sheet piling.
- Gas vent trenches, drilled venting and leachate wells including collector systems and vent stacks.
- Encapsulation drilling & grouting of deep or inaccessible contaminated hot spots using special cementitious and resin grouts.
- De-commission, purge, clean out and remove redundant fuel tanks from former petrol stations including disposal off site (tankering) of contaminated liquors.
- Contaminated groundwater removal & treatment including setting up groundwater collection, pumping, storage and treatment facilities to enable chemical analysis, skimming of oils, dosing of contaminated water, activated carbon treatment, controlled disposal to consented discharge location or tankering off site.
- Establishment of vehicle washing, sheeting and weighing systems, waste transfer notes and hazardous waste consignment notes, establishment of loading and unloading facilities, vehicle routing and timing, emergency procedures, liaison with hauliers, landfill facilities, EA and police.
- Establishment of extensive health monitoring regimes including radon, radioactivity, asbestos, dust & noise.

Our in depth knowledge of contaminated land regulatory regime enables us to assist in development of best value remediation strategies and implementation plans with clients, consultants, council EHO’s and the Environment Agency. This includes options studies and budget costings, agreeing practical and achievable site specific target remediation levels & soil clean up criteria, obtaining landfill tax exemptions, waste management exemptions and abstraction licences and assessing risks and opportunities
The broad experience and blend of civil and geotechnical skills places Forkers Ltd in a unique position of being able to provide a ‘one stop’ contracting service for a wide range of remediation schemes.
